 Brendan McNeirney – Owner, GM and Head Coach

Ever since I was a young lad, I was drawn to movement. I enjoyed all sports growing up, playing baseball, swimming, and soccer. I went on to play lacrosse and football in high school, but would say yes to anything competitive. As an adult, I even delved into roller hockey, basketball, indoor soccer, church league softball, and even a tortuous Go Ruck challenge.

I graduated from High Point University with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management, with minor in recreation. My business experience with sports ranged from marketing at Greensboro Generals minor league hockey to equipment staff for the Baltimore Ravens. I followed traditional “globo gym” routines for a number of years, with a roller coaster of results.

I discovered Crossfit through a Marine friend and have not turned back from there. If I was not trying a new WOD, I was watching youtube about Crossfit, I was obsessed. I became immersed in all things CrossFit , while continuing my sales profession, not realizing that this newfound obsession would become what defines me. I previously worked starting up 2 CrossFit gyms for other owners in Charlotte and and am pumped to be an owner of CF Meck.

I now understand more about the importance of a balanced life through my variety of career and exercise experiences. With fitness, one can live more fully, be a better father, better friend, and better trainer – enabling others to find their own greatness.

Bobby Knechtel – Coach

I’m more or less a native of Charlotte and  have been playing sports and been a “fitness junkie” my whole life. It wasn’t until college that I was introduced to CrossFit, and I was immediately hooked.

After training with great athletes in college I returned to Charlotte where I spent some time training on my own, bouncing from gym to gym. I eventually teamed up with and have been coaching with Brendan coach at a variety of CrossFit facilities in Charlotte for several years now.

I have been practicing CrossFit for nearly five years and coaching for about three. I love working with and meeting people from all walks of life.

The enjoyment for me comes from watching people develop and do things they never thought possible. I don’t care if you are a CrossFitter, sports specific athlete, soccer mom, 9 to 5 worker, or a beer drinking friend; amazing things are possible for people who are willing to put in the work.

Over the course of my time training and coaching, having spent a period training alone, the importance of the CrossFit family will always hold a special place in my heart.

Ryan Murphy- Owner, Coach

I was born and raised in Atlanta but have called Charlotte home since 2005.  Growing up I was very active and played as many sports as I could from tennis, baseball, swimming, golf and basketball.  After high school I attended and graduated in 2003 from Georgia Tech where I played water polo.

After college I was convinced to take up triathlons by friends in Charlotte – this turned out to be the best decision I ever made as I met my wife Julie, at the Dowd YMCA pool.  Over the course of about 4 years we competed in a variety of triathlons but focused primarily on Ironman races.  I complete Ironman Coeur D’Alene twice (2008, 2010) finishing just over 10 hours in both races.

After we had our first daughter, I found less and less time to get in the long workouts needed to compete in Ironman triathlons – and thankfully I found CrossFit.  I loved that with only a 1 hour lunch break I could get in a high quality workout that left me feeling more energized for the rest of my day.  My first workout was Angie (100 pull-ups, 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 air squats) –  I completed 8 strict pull-ups and then added several bands and the coach even assisted me by lifting my body to help complete the 100 pull-ups.  It only got tougher from there and I loved it.  I knew then I found the workouts I was looking for.

I have been following Crossfit and continuing to learn more about the methodology surrounding Constantly Varied, Functional Movements at High Intensity for 4 years now.  I am so proud of the community that we have at Crossfit Mecklenburg.  Watching members complete their first workout, helping everyone learn proper technique in a safe environment and witness continued improvements in fitness is what we strive to provide to everyone of all capabilities.  With two kids of my own, watching the children who join us in our kids rooms watch their parents workout and then join us after class on the floor to try fitness themselves brings me great joy.  I look forward to meeting you and helping you on your fitness journey.
